Service Learning 5.13.09

Today in service learning we made posters to post around the school about our bake sale on Friday May15, 2009. That was for the first part of it. For the second part of if a man named Jeff Stern came to speak to us about our sister school in Afghanistan. Also about the issues going on in Afghanistan. We asked him questions and asked how we can help. It was great.

Topic Selection Ruby Bridges

Ruby Bridges was important to history because she helped to change the world's views segregated schools. Ruby Bridges was born in 1954, in Tylertown, Mississippi. In 1960 she attended which used to be a segregated school, only for white children and teachers. She attended this school because she was selected along with 3 other African American students to attend this because they had a gift. They were very intelligent. She was the only one out of the 4 girls who actually attended.

next time in service learning

In service Learning next week we will be going out to pass out our surveys. We will be going to a lot of different places such as the gallery and Franklin Square. There are more places we will attending though. Our surveys have been finished as well as our brochures. We are ready for September.

Shakyra's Service Learning

Shakyra is in Mr. Romeros' N.H.D service learning group. She doesn't like it at all. She says it is boring and un-interesting. She says they do nothing and it erkes.

SERVICE LEARNING 5.15.08

On Thursday 5.15.08 in service learning we took a walk down to tenth street. We observed all the places and took a survey to where we thought parent would take their children. We went inside the Mcdonalds, there we saw dirty tables which is bad for children. Also as I walked around the Mcdonalds there was someone mopping the floor and I slipped and almost fell. The is a hazourdous to children because they could fall and hurt themselves. Kenya Mcqueen is in our group and she has a job to call the gallery and talk to someone and see what we have to do set up a booth or something so that we can talk to people and inform them of the dangers for their children.

Service Learning 5.9.08

My service learning group has split into two groups. One group is Led and the other is Child Safety. We now have divided our groups up into different sections that depend on our topics. We are all researching our topic and our assignment is to e-mail the information to the rest of our service learning group. We are also making business cards and brochures to give to adults to inform them of the dangers in their homes as well as anywhere them and their child and their families attend. Also next week we will be touring the neighborhood to see where would be good places to give the surveys and business cards.

This week in service learning we each have to present out the magnet we were suppose to create so we can hand them out to parents to put them on their refrigerator. Also we will start to type our survey.
